Klip & Outlaw Q&A
Q. Firstly congratulations on what has been a huge couple of years for you guys, do you both feel there was a turning point which accelerated your career and if so what was it?
A. Well, the first real accelerator for us was being made One Nation residents and being closely associated with such a household name in the industry, not to mention being booked at the UK’s biggest indoor electronic music festival that the country offers, Westfest.. Those opportunities don’t get offered to everyone!!
Q. How did you guys meet and what made you decide to start producing together?
A. (Klip) Well I used to work in a D&B specialist record shop where Outlaw was a regular customer and after many chats and discovering we both lived so close and both had the same drive and passion for the music, we decided to start making music together.
Q. What is it about Drum n Bass that made you want to produce and perform it?
A. There’s something about Drum & Bass and all of you reading this will know what we mean, once you find that sound, it’s more than just music.. It’s a lifestyle and a way of life. Progression was the only answer.
Q. Whats been you favourite DJ gig to date?
A. That’s a very tough question, we love all types of events and it’s hard to pin point just one.. One that always stands out to us though is Westfest, playing first set to a roaring, sell-out crowd was just the unreal!!
Q. Do you prefer DJ’ing or producing and why?
A. We would probably have to say DJing as everything we produce in designed for our sets and just you can’t beat the instant crowd reaction to a track you’ve just been working on in the studio for the last few weeks.
Q. Did you have any influences or idols when you were first starting out?
A. As a DJ, Zinc was always a standout set and always played the unexpected. As for the production side of things it’s got to be Hazard.. He has been setting the mark that others follow for a long time now and is still continuing to do so.
Q. How do you guys view the current dnb scene at the moment?
A. It’s healthy right now! Hazard getting a mention for a possible Chart entry with ‘Roll On My Level’, a whole heap of MC’s doing the first ever D&B cypher Fire In The Booth for Charlie Sloth on Radio 1 and not to mention all the up and coming talent coming through.
Q. Have you got any advice for DJ’s or producers just starting out?
A. Just keep with it and believe in what your doing.
Q. What does the future hold for Klip & Outlaw?
A. Loads to come from us, plenty of new tracks. A forthcoming EP on Biological Beats, co-labs with Nicky Blackmarket and many more.
Q. And finally where can your fans see you play over this summer?
A. You can catch us playing at One Nation, Westfest, Summer Jam, Soundclash Festival, Breakin Science and many more over the summer!
